Junk Mail DEMO
This was my first time trying to take part in a game jam
and my first time working with Ren'py
I don't really have much coding experience but it was fun learning.
Thought it would be nice for motivating myself to finish a project!
Clearly I bit off more than I could chew as always,
and didn't have eough time as I noticed the game jam only when it was 20 days till the end, and I was pretty busy with work, so most of it is 4 last days of crunch.
But it was fun! I hope you guys enjoy it,
and because I didn't get to any of the story I wanted to write I still wanna continue the development of this game so please look forward to it :)
(I didn't even get to the premise >< )
So far the demo is pretty sfw for the most part but I don't intend for the game to be this way.
Credit's can be found within the games main menu.
edit: I accidentally uploaded the wrong game file praying the right one will upload in time!!
Since the browser file seems too large I added download file

junk mail thoughts
my first impression was that this is a very ambitious concept to tackle as one person, so i was surprised. multiple options happening as often as they do immediately makes it take much longer to get to writing the story, so it makes a lot of sense why the game wasn't able to be completed within the game jam time limit. im really impressed that the demo was made within 20 days, there's a LOT of fantastic visual polish and attention to detail with the art. i think the art is also really pleasing to look at and cute.
the audio is very quiet and i almost didn't notice that there was audio, so it would be great if that is balanced to standard listening levels. the music itself tends to feel really discordant/erratic and a little disorienting for me, but it also adds to the feeling of tension and unease in the story. also, some of the SFX are a lot louder than the music in an uncomfortable way.
there are a few bugs i noticed during my playthrough with sprites not showing up or appearing slightly offscreen, or appearing in different outfits all of the sudden in the middle of a conversation. also appearing in front of the settings menu when i open it? which makes it difficult to use the settings menu since i cannot see it. there were also a few typos to fix
regarding accessibility checking, it would be great if there was an option to disable the screenshaking and to read with a more reader-friendly font, as much as i love the pixelated font and how well it works with the pixelated aesthetic of a lot of the CGs.
speaking of the CGs, wow holy shit these are so fun to look at. absolutely delightful!!!! i can tell a lot of care and love and excitement went into drawing these and figuring out how they would appear, they're really well-done. i love the expressions especially.
im definitely interested in seeing more of this game, and even though i think harriet is a frustratingly pathetic girl i feel bad for her. i sympathize with her plight. but shes pathetic in a way where im itching to see her have some character growth, so i would love to see more of this story.
thank you for making and uploading it!!!!
Wow thank you so much for the indepth review!! You don't know how helpful it is!
As for the audio, I was hoping to make it so that it doesn't bust my eardrums on first launch, like every game does, but still be something you can configure. I'll make the limit a bit higher!
Sadly I'm aware of the menu bug but I didn't have time to figure it out, It's beyond me so it will have to wait hehe. It's an issue with layering, character in front of textbox means character infront of menu, maybe there's an easier way to code it im unaware of :p
I'll also try to figure out the accessibility thing you mentioned!
When I finish the game I should hire someone to make audio for me, but I do grow attached to my royalty free music hehe, It kind of gives me a vibe of early escaperoom flashgames and such.
Thank youu again for all the kind words and I can't wait to play your game as well through the end when I have a minute!
Also if you remember the typos that would be great help, english isn't my first language so sometimes I don't even know something is a typo OTL
